Norwalk
church looks to expand despite concern from neighbors

NORWALK -- NORWALK – A Greek church
in Norwalk is planning a big expansion to accommodate more than 700
members, but not everyone is pleased with the project.
St. George Greek Orthodox Church’s leaders say they have outgrown
their current place of worship on West Rock Road, so they’re asking
the city of Norwalk to allow a $4.5 million expansion project.
Church officials say parking is so limited that worshipers are forced
to park on the grass. Nearby residents fear an expansion would negatively
impact the residential quality of the neighborhood.
The church is working with residents, saying it has created a new plan
with a smaller parking lot and other compromises.
The Norwalk Zoning Commission will vote on the project next month.
